This is Colleen's story

My nightmare began when I was operated on my c spine for a metal fusion.

"...he jumped to his feet and he called the neurosurgeon as the one of the screws had came out and was damaging my spine."

Few months after surgery I begin having my neck get caught to one side and it was very painful. I called the surgeon to complain about my neck and was refused to be seen and told to go to the emergency. Every time I went to emergency they refused to do an x-ray on my neck to see what was wrong.

After months of trying this I went to a couple walk-in clinics and had to beg for them to do an x-ray on my neck. I finally convinced a walk-in clinic to send me for an x-ray. I never heard a word from this clinic. Months later I went to see the orthopedic surgeon that referred me to the neurosurgeon and ask him if he could look at the x-rays that were done months earlier. When I finally got a surgeon to look at the x-ray, he jumped to his feet and he called the neurosurgeon as the one of the screws had came out and was damaging my spine.

Unfortunately I had to go back to this neurosurgeon for him to fix his error and after the second surgery the orthopedic surgeon did another x-ray and found that the neurosurgeon had tried bigger screws in the metal fusion which didn’t work but did break my neck in both spots where he tried the bigger screws.

Finally, the orthopedic surgeon told me I did not have to go back to the neurosurgeon and sent me to a specialist in Ottawa that had to put six rods and six screws in my C-spine because of what the previous neurosurgeon had done to me. When I asked the hospital for copies of the x-rays and MRIs they gave me a disk that did not have the pertinent information needed to take to a lawyer. The hospital was covering up for this neurosurgeon.

After the third surgery I tried to get a lawyer and not one lawyer would help me so I decided I would sue the doctor through the doctors and surgeons of Ontario where I got a judgment that he had given me a failed fusion. And at the end of this judgment I was told I had to take him to court on my own to collect the monies.

This judgment was given in 2015 and I have looked ever since for help and nobody will help me. I wish I could get help. I wish someone could please tell me what I could do to further my case against this doctor and our one and only hospital? You would think with a judgment from the college of doctors and surgeons of Ontario that it would be easy to find help.

I sit at home and suffer to this day and have no means of trying to collect any money to make up for the pain and suffering I have to endure due to the negligence of this doctor.
